Rest Day

Today is my rest day. So I thought of a few things about rest.

Rest is important. Even God himself rested to enjoy the beauty of what He had made.

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. ~ Genesis 2:2 (NIV)

Rest is a must. If you don’t know how to step on your breaks and stop for a while, you would find yourself burnt out. God reminded us to remember the Sabbath and keep it holy.

Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your manservant or maidservant, nor your animals, nor the alien within your gates. For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. ~ Exodus 20:8-11 (NIV)

Rest is not about idleness. The God of rest is not an idle God. An idle mind is the devil’s playground.

The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. ~ Romans 8:7 (NIV)

Rest is a blessing. Ingenuity and refreshing come when you rest. God provides even during rest.

Unless the LORD builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the LORD watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain. In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—
for he grants sleep to those he loves. ~ Psalm 127:1-2 (NIV)
